Juana the walker of Lanquin...

Juana has become one of Lanquin's main residents. Every morning she leaves her hut and starts her daily walk into town (10 kilometers away). In her mind she has the mission of running errands but the other residents know that she doesn't have anybody to look after her so when they see her walking in front their homes they make sure to invite her to a warm meal and some times to a warm bed because some days she doesn't make it back home before the sun sets. To me this is how the community of Lanquin show their love towards their elder residents.

A little bird told me...

I like to pre-visualize all of my images and plan accordingly but this one I have to say, I got it thanks to a bird. Baldomero Yojcom started fishing in Lake Atitlan when he was 8 years old so when it came to finding locations, he is the right guy for the job. We were just shooting another scene, when up ahead in the distance, I saw this beautiful bird standing on one of the trees you see in the image below. Long story short the bird flew away but left me with this amazing image!

Outdoor Weaving

We were walking back to our hotel in San Juan la Laguna when we ran into Doña Angela. I got really exited when I saw her weaving setup because it was just outside her house in the middle of an empty field. The day before I was actually trying to shoot some weavers without any success because all of them like to weave inside. I talked to her daughter first but I wasn't inspired by her look and besides she told me that the loom in the middle of the field was his mom's. Here is the main shot and a BTS one so you can see our setup.

Guatemala time-lapse...

During my trip to Guatemala I worked on a couple of projects simultaneously. Besides attempting to produce great character stories utilizing photography I also wanted to give you a good idea of the countryside and its landscapes. In order to accomplish this I decided to try producing a time lapse video. It was a challenge because it was new to me, but I believe you need to get out of your confort zone in order to grow. I hope these images inspire you to do something new this week!

Rosalina, just a regular mom...

Rosalina sells flowers at the local market in San Marcos la Laguna four days a week. Regardless of her To-Do List, you can count on her 2 year old daughter "Dulce" to be by her side. I asked her if she could give advice to all the young moms out there and she started laughing uncontrollably :)

She did mention, now that she is a mom she feels like Dulce will be her lifelong friend. I owe you the parental advice but something is really clear, she loves her daughter and making sure Dulce has a hot plate for dinner it's all she lives for.
